I figured I should probably start documenting some other things about Maxwell during these posts so I don't forget!
Sleep
Once we both got the hang of nursing, his night time eating sessions went much better and quicker. By two months he was sleeping a 5 hour stint and then a two three-hour stints. I really thought we would stay on that schedule for awhile. However, two weeks before I started back at work he slept through the night. The next morning, after it happened the first time, I just thought I had slept through a feeding. Nope! He did it two nights later and then proceeded to do it almost every night until he got sick (again more on that later!), about 4 weeks total. And when I say sleep through the night, I mean we'd put him down at 8 (7 once he started school) and he'd sleep until 6 or 7 the next morning. It was WONDERFUL (note the use of past tense). Even after starting school he was a champion sleeper! Also, he is a thumb sucker! He sometimes sucks other fingers but usually it's his thumb.
Eat
He is exclusively breastfeeding and I was worried up until about a week before he went to school that he would not get the hang of the bottle. Finally a smart mom friend of mine suggested switching bottles - duh! I had a couple sample bottles we got free sometime during my pregnancy so we tried those and they worked like a charm. I was sending him to school with three 5 oz bottles but was recently told by his teachers that he's still hungry. I'm not able to pump anymore so we've decided to supplement a bit with formula. I really wanted to make it to 6 months with breastfeeding only but it is way harder than it seems to keep with his demand!
His teachers tell me he can hold the bottle up on his own. He doesn't get many bottles at home so we don't have a picture of it yet!
Play
Maxwell loves to smile and giggle!! I have a certain voice that I will talk to him in and give him tickles and kisses on his neck and he will laugh and laugh! He is quite a talker these days as well! He is now grabbing at toys but without him sitting up yet it has to be at a good angle. For instance, he can grab at the toys that hang from his bouncy seat. It was cool to see him start grabbing at those toys because he's been sitting in that chair almost since he was born and now he can interact with it. We just ordered a bouncy station so we are excited to have him start using it. He likes using both his swing and his playmat at home.
Below are some pictures throughout the month:
| He still has curly hair when it's wet! |
| Some friends at work gave him this ~ too funny! |
