The week before he started we visited his classroom to meet his teachers. They had a chance to get to know Maxwell a bit as well. It was a pretty full classroom (aka all the cribs were currently full) when we visited but they said many babies were in transition to the next room so they had plenty of room for Maxwell and would get crib out of storage for him.
That Monday we show up and while we were dropping him off I noticed that they still didn't have a crib for him. I was a little upset about this because I knew he was tired and would want to take a nap soon. Before we left we went to the front desk to finish some paperwork and the center director asked me how I was doing and the water works started. I was telling her that Maxwell still didn't have a crib through my tears. I wasn't crying because he didn't have a crib, it just hit me that I had to leave him there. She assured me she would make sure he had a crib ASAP. So Mike and I both left for work knowing that we could log in and check him out on camera (yes they have video cameras!) as soon as we got to work. I was such a mess that I missed my highway exits and ended up taking back streets all the way to work.
Finally I got to work and was able to check him out on camera. They did end up putting a crib in the room for him and we got lucky because you can see his crib the best on camera. When we picked him up they said that he had been a little fussy, which was normal, and that he really hadn't napped well, which they also said was normal. I had heard that babies are exhausted after their first days at daycare and was that the truth. He fell asleep at 6pm and slept all night. The rest of the week went great, his teachers said he was adjusting well and was hardly ever fussy after the first day.
Below are his first day of school pictures (first of many to come!).
| They had a nice sign at the front door welcoming us! |
| They also had a sign on the door of his classroom (funny story, a co-worker thought he was a girl and his name was Maxwell Nicole when I shared this photo with her :) |
They informed me on his first day that the next day was school picture day. I was so excited for this! I was just sad I couldn't actually be there for the photo session. I dressed him in a cute winter outfit the next day. We had to wait two full weeks to see the photos. This photography company was a rip off! The cheapest package they had was $60 and you got four sheets of prints. They had three poses of him so I chose the wallets of each of the poses (so we could pass out to the gmas and gpas) and then the 3x5 (I think or maybe 4x6) of one of the poses. These are the funniest photos I may have ever seen! Mike describes the baseball one as his Glamour Shot and he looks down right annoyed in the other two photos. I have the photos posted on my bookshelf at work and everytime I look at the them I smile (and sometimes chuckle)!
