I scheduled our first appointment with our regular Ob/Gyn, Dr. Kuhlmann for Monday, April 16. We were told to anticipate the appointment taking about an hour and that we would most likely not have an ultrasound. First we filled out paper work and answered a ton of questions. Then we met Peggy, who will be our nurse and she asked a bunch of questions and finally we met with Dr. Kuhlmann who asked us more questions. We did not have another ultrasound, however he did try to listen to the baby's heartbeat using a fetal doppler. He warned us that it might be too early to hear the heartbeat with the doppler but sure enough we heard it! I did some blood work and then they sent us packing with a big information packet.
Our next appointment is for a First Trimester Screen. This is where they do an ultrasound to measure the fluid around the baby's neck to check for Down Syndrome. I will also get additional blood work to test for chromosome abnormalities. I'll meet with Dr. Kuhlmann shortly after this appointment to go over the results.
I have heard that it is sometimes possible to find out the gender in this appointment! Stay tuned to find out if that happens!
